Forget about touristy things to do in Morocco. When I dug into the country, my attention was on Africa’s first high-speed railway—Al Boraq. I would love to ride the train from Casablanca all the way to Tangier. That could happen later. It also stops at Rabat. So I took a trip on the train to experience that section of the ride and explore the capital a bit.
The journey started at Casa-Voyageurs Station. Getting a ticket from a vending machine was straightforward, indicating effective UX design. The train station was also well-designed. It was not only nice to stroll inside but also functional. I didn’t see any crowd bottleneck. Probably, it was not during the peak hour.
In less than an hour, we arrived at Rabat-Agdal Station. Again, the station was impressive with the consistent spacious white theme.
Unfortunately, the city excursion was short since I got there in the afternoon. It was more about the journey than the destination anyway. I took a tram to the unfinished Hassan Tower and walked to Rabat Medina, the city’s old market and UNESCO World Heritage site.
As evening fell, I took a normal service train back, from Rabat Ville Station to Casa Port Station. At the peak hour, the train was loaded with intercity commuters and stopped at several stations before terminating in Casablanca. It took around 75-90 minutes. It wasn’t too crowded and also reliable.
After the ride, I saw how this transportation became a significant role in the country’s future and was convinced to plan a ride to the northern tip of Morocco. I am looking forward to it.
