Elevating Views of New BTS Skywalk

In 2023, while walking to the gym, I passed a new shopping mall construction site, Emsphere. Bangkok has never had enough of them. But a new BTS skywalk that came with it was more intriguing. It was a little thing I appreciated on busy Sukhumvit Road. Here are some street shots of the urban development from May to December, from excavators to red carpets.

Although the new elevated footpath was primarily designed to direct pedestrians from Phrom Phong Station to the new mall bypassing the chaotic street below, it gave fresh views to the landscape along the 400-meter walk including Benchasiri Park and, of course, the new mall itself. 

The construction got more interesting to me when the fence was removed, unveiling workers finishing up the exterior. 

Bangkok is not a desirable city for cycling or walking because of the climate, the street conditions, the pollution, etc. These skywalks along public transportation provide shade, safety, and elevated urban landscape views. On top of that, they encourage people to walk more.
