Coach to Ürgüp
The previous day’s exploration pays off since the bus terminal is somehow familiar to me. But I’m still uncertain about getting on the bus with just that piece of paper. I show it to an attendant at the platform. He tells me to wait and that bus takes off later. Then the coach with my destination sign—Nevşehir—docks at the platform. On time, actually.
The seat is relatively comfy but has no power point. I won’t be doing any graphic work today anyway, just some words for a blog post. And the appreciation of Anatolia along Otoyol 21 highway. It is Saturday after all.
The coach is on the highway for about two hours and exits to Nevşehir. The first stop is the Nevşehir Bus Station where the locals get off. Then it goes to Göreme where they drop off most of the visitors. Along the way, we get a preview of Cappadocia in the coach. It is impressive. And the final stop is Ürgüp where I take a taxi to the hotel in Mustafapaşa.
Finally, I am at the destination—Cappadocia. It takes about four hours on the bus with no break that tortures my bladders. I check in, have a shower, walk around the town to get cash to pay for the hotel and get dinner & beers while doing some more work until the laptop is low on power.
It is a long and intense journey—three days including one day break in Ankara. But those times on the train and the coach are really extraordinary. This itinerary is unnecessary but I don’t regret going through it. Walking back tipsy to the hotel from the local pub under moonlight reminds me of that.
